Zekes Page

This page is dedicated to my special one, Zeke - the best buddy I ever had
In 1991 I was living in Arizona attending auto school. One night I heard a kitten crying in pain but it was too dark to see anything. The next morning I walked around to look for the kitten and found him. "Zeke" was lying on the ground in a ball next to an apartment building, he was covered in bugs and very hurt. He fit in the palm of my hand as I carried him to the apartment. The vet said that he was hit by a car or kicked and had his right hip dislocated. They also said nothing could be done about the hip and he should do ok. I took him in and nursed him back to health. He couldnt even stand to go to the bathroom so I made a special litter box out of a shoe box that he could get into. I had to hand feed him formula as he was so young for almost 2 months before he could walk.

From then on out, Zeke and I were connected in a way few people get connected to an animal or anyone else.

For the next 12 years I took care of Zeke dearly but he was weakend by a feline leukemia shot he got In 2000. In January of 2002 I got very sick with 104+ fever and was unable to get out of bed for several weeks. Viral meningitis was what the doctors had finally figured was wrong.

Well as the story goes, I was so sick myself I was not able to or even alert enoph to take care of Zeke, he needed extra water due to diabetes set in from the shot. And a wet diet, by the time I was able to get out of bed I had the horror of finding Zeke limp as a rag doll. I rushed Zeke to the critical care where they found he was having kidney failure (I had noticed too late). Zeke spent the next 3 days in the vets office on an IV trying to start his kidneys back up again. At the same time I was in the Emergency room getting blood tests and an MRI. I was able to get better but Zeke had gone too long before I was able to care for him.

For the next 2 months I had to give Zeke dailey sub-Q fluids to try to keep him going. He had up days and then he began to slip. I took him to a different vet where they over hydrated him causing him to litterally drown from the excess fluid forced into him. His little body couldnt process that much fluid.

I spent that night with him all night holding and petting him untill morning, I knew he was going to go now. He watched me as I drove away, I stopped, ran back to the window, smiled and tapped on the glass at him. In a few hours I got a call from my friend who stopped to check up on him that he had died. It was April 15th - the day before my Birthday. Zeke, you were my special one and I will always remember you.

Zeke - You will always be remembered and loved
